A Brief History of Marlborough MA
In the 1650s, several families left the town of Sudbury, 18 miles west of Boston, to start a new town. As an ode to their hometown in England, the village was named after Marlborough. The town of Marlborough was officially incorporated in 1660.

In the beginning of the 18th century, Marlborough MA became a popular rest stop on the Boston Post Road as it offered several inns and taverns. By 1890 the town had boomed to a population of 14,000. Much of this was due to Marlborough becoming a major shoe manufacturing center, producing boots for Union soldiers, as well as footwear for the civilian population.
